5 Things to Know Before You Buy a Home Saun

A home sauna is one of the best wellness investments you can make — but it's also a significant purchase, and there are a few things worth understanding before you buy.

1. Know Your Electrical Setup Before You Order

Most infrared saunas require a dedicated 20-amp, 120V circuit. Larger models may need 240V. Before your sauna arrives, have a licensed electrician confirm what you're working with. This is the most common thing buyers overlook, and it can delay your setup by days if it's not handled in advance.

Wood-burning barrel saunas require no electricity at all — just ventilation and a flat surface to sit on.

2. Size Up If You're On the Fence

The most common piece of feedback we hear from sauna owners? They wish they'd gone bigger. A 1-person sauna feels cozy at first, but if you ever want to share the experience — or just stretch out — you'll feel the limitation.

If you're torn between a 2-person and a 3-person model, go with the 3-person.

3. Understand What "Assembly Required" Actually Means

Most saunas ship as kits. For a standard indoor infrared sauna, assembly typically takes 2–3 hours with basic tools and one other person. Outdoor barrel saunas can take a full day depending on size and your comfort with tools.

Every product listing on our site includes an honest assembly estimate. If you're not a DIYer, budget for a handyman — it's usually a few hundred dollars well spent.

4. Buy From an Authorized Dealer

The sauna market is full of generic brands and resellers with no accountability. Buying from an authorized dealer means your warranty is valid, your product is genuine, and you have someone to call if something goes wrong.

At SaunaPros, every brand we carry is an authorized partnership. We don't list anything we can't stand behind.

5. Think About Where You'll Put It Before You Order

Measure twice. For indoor saunas, account for ceiling height (most require at least 7') and make sure the unit can actually get through your door and into the space. For outdoor saunas, think about the foundation — most barrel saunas need a level surface, whether that's concrete, pavers, or a wood deck.
